Four-stroke cycle

Assembly to be completed

Summary of the financial year

Editing in progress.

Scope of the exercise

Educational assembly by sub-assemblies, without brand or manufacturer reference. It does not prescribe tightening torques, clearances, tolerances, lubrication or operations of an actual engine.

The cycle is an ideal kinematic animation: no calculation of combustion, pressure, temperature or power. The valves have neither advance, nor delay, nor crossing; the 360° setting is the reference chosen for the TDC at the end of compression in the diagram.

Indicative educational score at the end of assembly: 100 − 5 × errors − 2 × indices, limited between 0 and 100.

    Understand: The four-stroke engine

Understand the mechanical cycle and distinguish the succession of times from the ideal thermodynamic model.

Admission, compression, combustion–expansion and exhaust follow one another in two revolutions of the crankshaft. The connecting rod transforms the movement of the piston into rotation while the distribution controls the valves.
