Hypotheses and references

Three crown effect roller scenarios. The diameters are illustrations of usual sizes; capacities, voltage and settings are not manufacturer specifications. The model uses apparent partition coefficients, without calculation of electric field or physical trajectory. Humidity, speed, release and load empirically influence performance. The position of the separators regulates the purity–recovery compromise.

Particle size assumed to be prepared and constant: 100–500 µm. Species have a fixed class conductivity; inclusions, temperature, dirt and wear are not calculated. All minerals are retained in the three fractions or in the remaining feed. Humidity is an initial condition; no drying is simulated. Electrode adjustments are educational comparisons, not a hands-on physical intervention.

Understand: Separate by electrical behavior

Understand the action of an electric field on particles and the role of conductivity.

Particles can be charged or respond differently to an electric field. In some roller separators, the conductors discharge their charge more quickly than the insulators, which modifies their trajectories.
