Industrial view in longitudinal section + animated cross section. Illustrative geometry; non-contractual dimensions and performance of the scenario.
Particle size of feed and product
Understanding simulation and its limits
The circuit is powered during a finite mass campaign. The ore remains in inventory in the crusher, fragments and then exits with the pulp. The end of feeding is followed by emptying. The balance sheets distinguish between ore in the hopper, ore in the crusher and discharged product; water is monitored separately.
Bar crusher: longitudinal grinding bodies. Ball mill: steel balls. AG: the ore constitutes the grinding bodies. SAG: mixture of ore and additional balls. The metal charge is expressed as a percentage of the apparent internal volume, not as a mass percentage of ore.
Nc = 42.3 / √(D − d), in revolutions/minute with D and d in meters, is an approximation of critical speed. Near Nc, the charge tends to centrifugal. The animation is illustrative and does not constitute a calculation of particle dynamics.
Educational model of 48 particle size classes, energy transfer inspired by Bond, apparent mixing and stay. Power, filling, bearing temperature and discharge are estimated. The settings do not predict mineral release, wear, or actual torque. Metal charge changes are assumed instantaneous to compare scenarios; they do not represent an ongoing maintenance operation. No hydrocyclone or recycling of pebbles is simulated.
